At a ceremony held on September 23, 2021, the Brusque Philatelic Club (CFB) honored Counselor Francisco Carlos de Araújo Brusque (1822-1886) with the launch of a personalized stamp, in memory of the 135th anniversary of his passing. This tribute is part of the CFB's programming, which aims to pay homage to important figures in the history of Brusque.
The Brusque family, originally called Bruschi and belonging to the nobility of Florence, emigrated to Portugal around 1762 or 1763 and was soon admitted to the court of King John V. In 1808, members of this family accompanied Dom João VI on his journey to Brazil.
Araújo Brusque, born in Rio Grande do Sul, served as president of the Province of Santa Catarina from 1859 to 1861. During this time, on August 4, 1860, the Itajahy Colony was founded, which was renamed Brusque on January 17, 1890, in his honor.
The cancellation ceremony took place at the Brusque House Museum, where, in addition to the personalized stamp, an envelope, a postcard, and an audiovisual presentation telling the story of the CFB were launched.
